A sonic time capsule

A sonic time capsule.
The archivist and curator at British Library Sound Archive Andrea Zarza Canova has written an instruction manual for building »A Sonic Time Capsule« that also investigates the philosophical implications embedded in this process. What is kept for posterity should not necessarily be a material object, but rather a listening strategy that allows future listeners to engage with their soundscape meaningfully. On Tuesday November 14th she will lead a workshop – in a collaboration with Seismograf and The Lake Radio – in which the participants will decide on and materialize the contents of a sonic time capsule.

Sound, music, film and theatre all play a central role in documenta 14, the latest edition of the most important art-world events taking place every five years since 1955. This documenta is an exceptional one, as this is the first time the exhibition takes place in two cities. A theatre and its double (per Antonin Artaud), the exhibition first opened last April in the levantine Athens and two months later in the not-quite-charming Kassel.
